Song

Songwriters: Fogerty, John

Some folks are born to wave the flag,
Ooh, they're red, white and blue.
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief",
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no,
Yeah!

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh.
But when the taxman comes to the door,
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no.

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord,
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! yoh,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one.
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no,
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no no no,

Written in 1969 by John Forgeryt, "A Fortunate Son" addresses men who were not drafted into the the Vietnam War.The song was written against the war. The music itself, apart from  the lyrics,  plays a sad but yet fast tune. The instruments played in "A Fortunate Son" were the piano and guitar.  Vocals were also a part of the song. The artists who made up the band Creedence Clearwater Revival, who wrote and performed this song, were from America. The fact the artists were from America made the song personal because Americans were fighting in the Vietnam War and this was the subject of the song.
This song impacted America in many ways. It was used in video games like Battle Vietnam, Battlefield, :Bad Company 2 :Vietnam, and many others. Also the song was used in soundtracks of movies  such as   Forrest Gump and Chuck. The song was even in a Wrangler  commercial!
The fortunate sons are the people that are lucky enough not to be part of the Vietnam War.The song was specifically inspired by David Eisenhower who was President Dwight David Eisenhower grandson and married Julie Nixon, President Richard Nixon's daughter. David didn't go to war therefore he was considered a fortunate son. I think that the "fortunate sons" were the people who  were "made to wave the flag" but did not have to fight in the war.

This song addresses people that did not have to be part of the Vietnam War and the fact that not everyone who fought the war was for it. I think this song  addresses social issues more than being an anti-war song. I say this because it refers to people who where born in to a house where they would not have to go to war. It does not really say in the song that the war is bad, more that it's not fair.  Some people didn't have to fight and these people tended to be wealthy.  I think that is what the song  writer wanted one to feel.  It was not fair that some people  pretended there no war and weren't affected by it at all.
